Writer's Guidelines
- AARP - Departments include Finance, Health, Food, Travel, Consumerism, General Interest, Profiles/ First Person Accounts. Discourages unsolicited manuscripts. Pays $1.00 per contracted word.
- Adirondack Life - For new writers, the best way to break into the magazine is through departments, which run from 1,200 to 2,500 words. Features run approximately 2,500 to 4,000 words. Pays 25 cents per published word. Photographer's guidelines also available.
- Animal Wellness Magazine - Welcomes unsolicited articles and story outlines. Articles may range in length from 500 to 1,500 words.
- Birder's World Magazine - Guidelines for writers and photographers, how to propose story ideas, and contributors' field ethics.
- Cabin Life - Mostly uses articles by freelance writers working on assignment who have expertise in home building, home supply, home maintenance, home projects, lakeshore & environmental issues, outdoor entertaining, cooking, outdoor activities, and legal & financial issues.
- Florida Wildlife - Seeks well-written Florida fishing, hunting and nature-based recreation stories emphasizing the appreciation of the overall outdoor experience and not focused solely on the taking of game.
- Freelance Writer's Report (FWR) - Target readers are established writers. Prefers short filler material; pays 10 cents per edited word.
- Highlights for Children - A general-interest, advertising-free magazine for children up to age twelve. Prefers to see manuscript rather than query. Pays on acceptance; buys all rights. Pays $50 and up.
- National Geographic Traveler - Generally interested in places accessible to most travelers, not just the intrepid or wealthy, from mainstream to adventure travel. Also publishes regular service-oriented departments on subjects including photography, food, lodgings, ecotourism, adventurous learning experiences, and short getaways.
